“More than 17 million Americans were thrown out of work when the pandemic hit and unemployment remains above 10 million.”
Where can people find work? While there is an abundance of low wage jobs, Americans need training and skills in the right careers to advance and earn higher, livable wages.
According to the Labor Department, the healthcare and technology sectors will add the greatest number of higher paying jobs. Registered nurses, nurse practitioners, health services managers and physician assistants will see the most growth until 2029.
The U.S. is expected to add 316,000 sofware developer positions in the next decade. Information security has been a growing field and experience with “mobile operating systems” are highly sought after, but technology is changing rapidly and workers must be ready to learn new skills continuously.
The economic and emotional stress due to the pandemic will be felt for a very long time. Many teachers have retired early and communities are still struggling but hopeful as more people get vaccinated. We will see continued need for teachers, therapists as well as community and social service workers.
